.EXE and .DOCX file Extensions

In my last post related to file extensions i told you about some file extensions, what they are and how to open files with those extension. Following that I am going to tell you about one most widely used file extension and one new file extension.

Ever you installed any program in your windows powered PC? Which file your run and what is that file’s extension? You guess right, it is .EXE . In windows you just double click on this
file and program start to install in your PC. File Extension EXE is the common filename extension denoting an executable file (a program) in the DOS, Microsoft Windows, ReactOS, and OS/2 operating systems. Besides the executable program itself, many EXE files contain other components called resources, such as bitmaps and icons which the executable program may use for its graphical user interface.

Once my friend given me his project report in word document. When I tried to open file , I got error and was unable to open file. I contacted to my friend and asked about it, he said he made it using MSOffice 2007 and I was using XP version. Problem was a new File Extension DOCX (.DOCX) and I hadn’t any plugin to get compatibility for my XP version of MSOffice to open DOCX files. Actually DOCX file is known as Microsoft Office XML Document. This format provide facility to use word documents with other softwares.

So make sure you are using MSOffice 2007 to open DOCX file or you will get irritated like me. Or you can use plugins provided by Microsoft to open them in older version of MSOffice
