Access and display files from FTP and the Web

WebSiteam released an update of its application for improving FTP browsing experience. The program allows viewing and running films and songs right from FTP. Features include viewing file related information and packed files contents.

Lots of us have encountered disappointment having to download loads of files from FTPs to finally choose just a few. Every time it becomes really irritating. SmartFTPplayer application might make our lives a way happier. The concept of that is simple - why not search within FTP folders like your own – meaning that you can launch each music or video file to make up your mind whether you need it or not. SmartFTPplayer provides you with the chance.

What does SmartFTPplayer actually do? When you’re connected to FTP you are able to search through folders arranged in a classical tree style. The application automatically provides you with the relevant information related to a selected music or video file. For instance, in case of an mp3 it would be the bitrate and all that musician and album data contained in the file, if any. The program allows you to playback a file previous to downloading it. What’s even more interesting, you don’t have to listen to it from the beginning. Simply move the cursor to any point of the time scale and press play button. The problem here is that the playback scale is in a percent format. When it makes easier to search for the exact middle of a media file, searching that favourite bridge on the minute and 35th second takes a few moments longer. With SmartFTPplayer you also are able to download just a selected piece of a song or a film.

In spite of what you could guess from the name of the program, SmartFTPplayer is not totally FTP-oriented. The mentioned functions can be used with the Web as well. (The developer should think of changing the name to avoid
misconception.) So, it is fine with the Internet either. For the sake of convenience the application puts itself in the Internet Explorer mouse dropdown so you don’t have to launch it from the desktop or where you preferred to place the icon. It’s a pity, this doesn’t apply to those using free browsers.

Apart from the above, it’s a bit boastful of WebSiteam to actually name the program a ‘player’. The name becomes greatly to playing sound files however when it comes to video it’s every now and then freezing for buffering. Yes, you are able to adjust the size of the buffer manually or even disable buffering; and yet it’s nicer to use SmartFTPplayer for previewing videos instead of watching them.

Altogether, SmartFTPplayer is a practical program for those who know what they’re searching for, whether they search within FTP or the Internet. Although some could suggest it needs GUI and functional updates, in its current condition it’s completely operable and functional.
